Allison Levine Please the Palate: A World of Sparkling Wines

June 26, 2020

Allison Levine, owner of Please the Plate, freelance writer, and host of the podcast Wine Soundtrack USA,  provides a most helpful guide to all things sparkling wines. While most consumers opt for champagne, the crème d la crème of the category, wine lovers should seek out more varieties in the vast world of sparkling wines. Levine exclaims that, “there are fabulous sparkling wines made around the world that are not only lovely to drink but can be more affordable than Champagne.”

Included in her guide are two wines from Langlois-Chateau, the Crémant de Loire Brut NV and the Crémant de Loire Brut Rosé NV. Like champagne, both wines are made in the Traditional Method, in which second fermentation happens inside the bottle and the subsequent lees are disgorged. Both wines received rave reviews, with the Brut being described as “medium-bodied wine has a crisp, mineral finish” and the Rosé receiving high praise, ” light-bodied with a crisp, refreshing yet delicate finish.”

Langlois-Chateau is the "Tête de Crémant." The Crémants are the focus of the estate, accounting for 62% of the estate's production, making Langlois-Chateau the leader of Loire sparkling wine. It’s a case of quantity and quality with the production standards far beyond the appellation requirements and even beyond Champagne AOC standards. The result is Méthode Champenoise wines of incredible finesse. The still Sancerres are equally notable and are benchmarks for the appellation, with brightness, intensity, depth and minerality.
