Viñedo Chadwick: Maipo Valley, Chile
Viñedo Chadwick is Errazuriz owner Eduardo Chadwick's homage to his father. Eduardo planted a vineyard in front of the house where he grew up, and has worked for the last fifteen years to create one of Chile's greatest wines.
The Viñedo Chadwick vineyard is located in Puente Alto, on the south-east border of Santiago, the capital of Chile, along the northern bank of the Maipo River in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. The 37-acre vineyard was planted in 1992, now 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 4% to Carmenere. The vineyard is managed using sustainable farming practices, and allows for minimal interference through its use of traditional agricultural methods.
The vineyard is divided into several blocks which are monitored independently and hand-harvested in the cool morning hours to preserve fruit quality. Lots are gently crushed and then fermented separately, followed by an extended maceration of up to thirty days depending on the development of the individual lots. The wine is then aged in 100% new French barriques. Annual production is around 800 cases.
