Gaba do Xil

Gaba do Xil, Valdeorras

In 2004, Telmo Rodriguez decided to start a new project in one of the most unknown areas of Galicia. The purpose was to create a very serious white wine from Godello, a grape native to the region. Telmo found an area with Roman terraces he thought an ideal planting site, purchased land, and is now producing a beautiful, round wine with floral and stone fruit components, structure, and a richness that hint at the future of the property.

2006 Vintage Reviews
“Light straw. Bright citrus and green apple aromas are underpinned by energetic minerality. Refreshingly bitter wine, showing lime and lemon zest qualities and a hint of quinine. Finishes with a deeper chamomile flavor and good persistence.” 88 IWC, Sep/Oct 2007

2005 Vintage Reviews:
“The newest releases tasted just before the publishing deadline include the 2004 Gaba do Xil, a 100% Godello. This gorgeous dry white offers up hints of peaches, apricots, and honeysuckle, no obvious oak, a terrific texture, medium to full body, and wonderful purity as well as length.” 89 Wine Advocate, June 2005
