Schiopetto: Friuli, Italy
Blumeri Rosso, IGT
This blend of 70% Merlot, 15% Refosco dal Peduncolo and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Blumeri Rosso is the result of a wine project which began some years ago after a careful valuation of the characteristics of the microclimate and pedology of the vineyard in Colli Orientali, called Podere dei Blumeri. With the manual harvest, the grapes are picked off the bunch and fermented separately. The length of maceration and the method of wine production are chosen based on the different phenolic conditions of the grapes. The Malolactic fermentation and the closure in oak barrels and barriques follow. This lasts for 15 months. With an intense ruby color, the wine is spiked with a cherry and raspberry conserve. It is long and elegant with delicate and spiced woody flavors and leaves warm and intense tannic sensations. First vintage was 2001.2003 Vintage Reviews
“Blumeri is mostly young-vine fruit from Schiopetto’s estate in Colli Orientali, a blend based on Merlot (about 20 percent old-vine) with refosco dal peduncolo rosso and cabernet. It’s a fresh and elegant 2003, with luscious, wild blueberry flavors building density in the middle then cool, spicy tannins coming to a dark chocolate end.” 91 Wine & Spirits, August 2007
