Schiopetto: Friuli, Italy
Blanc des Rosis, IGT
An historic assemblage of Tocai Friulano, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, Malvasia and Ribolla, Blanc des Rosis is the product of a need to represent, in one unique wine, the vine variety present in the area. The manual harvest and the soft pressing are followed by a brief period of aeration with no presence of sulfur dioxide. 95% of fermentation takes place in stainless steel and 5% of Malvasia is fermented in barrels. The wine remains on its yeast for 8 months. With a straw-yellow color with golden reflections, the wine develops an intense perfume characterized by the presence of the different but well balanced vine varieties. It is harmonious, balanced along with wonderfully complex aromas.
2005 Vintage Reviews:
“Schiopetto makes this complex and layered blend by fermenting four different varieties separately. The tocai (50% percent), pinot grigio and sauvignon go into stainless steel, the malvasia into large wooden vats to round it out. Together, the form a bold white, its range of flavors delivered with firmness and sass. Scents of pear and honey, yellow herbs and peach skin make an impression that seems to be amplified in the finish. A hint of earthiness lasts.” 94 Wine & Spirits, August 2007
