Quinta do Noval Ports: Douro, Portugal

LBV

LBV

Quinta do Noval’s LBV is a port of only one harvest, produced in years of good quality that allow the development of a full body, aroma and palate. Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesca and Touriga Nacional are the major grape varieties in the LBV 2001. 70% of the grapes come from the estate and 30% are “A” category grapes from traditional suppliers. All grapes were trodden by food and fermented in the lageres at Quinta do Noval. The wine was then aged 4 ½ years in old wooden vats of various sizes.  A deep, rich brick red color, the nose is ripe, vigorous and fruity. The palate delivers a mouthful of fresh red fruits, with a solid tannic structure and a long, harmonious finish.

2001 Vintage Review

“This wine's cherry blossom scent and red cherry flavor gain richness from the warmth of schist tannins and alcohol. It lasts on dark, sweet pipe tobacco and that peppery warmth. Fine and powerful at once, this is ready to drink with Stilton and figs.” 90 Wine & Spirits, December 2008
