Petrolo: Tuscany, Italy

This Estate was bought by the Bazzocchi family in the 1940s and since the mid 80s has been headed by Lucia Bazzocchi Sanjust with the assistance of her son Luca who is now managing the winery. The technical agronomist is Carlo Nesterini, the oenologist is Stefano Guidi and since June 2002, Carlo Ferrini has been collaborating on agricultural and vinification issues.

The Estate covers 272 hectares of which 31 are planted to vine and another 19 are planted with olive trees. The property has an altitude range from 250 to 400 metres above sea level. Soils consist of the typical marl of the Chianti known locally as galestro. The Petrolo winery is part of the medieval fiefdom of “Galatrona” and its tower, built in the 12th century atop roman ruins, still exists in near-perfect condition.
