Marcel Deiss: Alsace, France

Muscat Bergheim

Muscat Bergheim, Alsace

With magnificent aromas characteristic of this varietal, this round Muscat seduces and will not disappoint amateurs of this noble grape. The nose and palate are in harmony, concentrated on notes of elderberry and citrus, acacia and yellow peach.

2005 Vintage Reviews
“The Deiss 2005 Muscat d’Alsace displays sweet, extremely ripe but herb-tinged apricot and orange blossom aromas, then comes onto the palate lithe and invigorating in its citrus rind and herbal pungency as well as salinity, and finishes with remarkable length, refinement, liqueur-like intensity of orange and apricot, and a clear, fresh fruit intensity, none of which one expects to encounter (or perhaps one only dreams of meeting) with this genre. Very seldom – outside of Dirler, Muller-Catoir or Zind-Humbrecht – have I tasted a dry(ish) Muscat of this quality, not to mention such an outstanding value in its genre.” 92 Wine Advocate, February 2008
