Premier Cru

Premier Cru, Côte de Nuits Red

Chambolle-Musigny “Les Amoureuses”
"Deep red-ruby. Dark raspberry and sassafras aromas. Fairly large-scaled and broad but with a restrained sweetness. Rich and supple but initially lacking the lift and detail of the Charmes. With air, though, this showed aromas and flavors of blackberry, violet and minerals and a building sweetness. The substantial but fine tannins suggest that this rich, creamy wine will benefit from five or six years of cellaring.
92(+?) Stephen Tanzer, Mar/Apr 2007

“A blast of fresh kirsch and violet notes show depth and precision in this concentrated '04 red. It's pure and smooth, with the tannins emerging on the finish. Fine length. This should sing in a year or two. Best from 2009 through 2018.” 91 Wine Spectator, January 2007

“Here there is less obvious wood with wonderfully spicy black berry and pinot fruit notes fading into soft, round, sweet and pure flavors that are textured, long and classy. Like the Charmes, this is a wine of obvious finesse with really lovely finishing detail and a long, lingering backend.” 89-91 Burghound, April 2006

Chambolle-Musigny “Les Charmes”
“Good deep red-ruby color. Raspberry and minerals on the nose. Lush and sweet, with lovely inner-mouth perfume to the spicy red berry and rooty cherry cola flavors. A floral delicacy contributes to the impression of detail and definition here. Finishes persistent and gripping, with a spicy perfume.” 92 Stephen Tanzer, Mar/Apr 2007

“A pungent yet ultra elegant nose of very pure red pinot fruit and subtle but noticeable wood spice merges into very rich and distinctly sweet flavors that offer impressive mid-palate fat and plenty of volume yet retain a first class sense of finesse and restraint on the long backend. I particularly like the dry extract here as it gives the flavors a textured mouth feel.” 91 Burghound, April 2006

“There's a candied cherry element to the fruit in this elegant red, along with floral and mineral accents. It's vibrant, firm and intense, with everything in the right proportion and a long finish. Best from 2008 through 2016.” 90 Wine Spectator, January 2007

Gevrey-Chambertin “Estournelles”
“Ripe and ample, with concentrated cherry, wild berry, earth and mineral flavors. Vibrant and long, this needs time for all the elements to come together. Fine resonant finish. Best from 2008 through 2015.” 93 Wine Spectator, January 2007

Gevrey-Chambertin “Lavaut St. Jacques”
“Delicious, with a distinct minerality, hints of tobacco and a streak of black currant. More generous than the Estournelles St.-Jacques, with beautifully defined fruit, wonderful balance and a long aftertaste of blackberry and mineral. Best from 2008 through 2018.” 93 Wine Spectator, January 2007

“Medium-deep red. Subdued but pure aromas of raspberry, mint, licorice and minerals. Sweet and juicy; still a bit folded in on itself following the recent end of the secondary fermentation. But this sharply delineated wine boasts terrific structure.” 89-92 Stephen Tanzer, Mar/Apr 2006

“An expressive nose featuring very pretty red pinot fruit, minerals, earth and iron plus generous wood spice combines with delicious, punchy and precise flavors that are textured, long and classy. This is lovely and while the wood is not subtle, it again should integrate with time in bottle.” 92 Burghound , April 2006

Gevrey-Chambertin “Cazetiers”
“Bright, full red. Sexy oak complements aromas of red cherry, rose petal, game and underbrush. Rich, fleshy and suave, with a sappy quality to the flavors of redcurrant, briary raspberry and dried rose. Not at all overly sweet. This very vibrant wine communicates a strong impression of soil. Finishes with spicy, ripe tannins.” 91 Stephen Tanzer, Mar/Apr 2007

Nuits-St.-Georges “Les Vaucrains”
“Saturated deep red. Discreet aromas of dark raspberry, black cherry, iron and humus; quite unevolved. Concentrated and penetrating, with a light touch and very good acidity. Black cherry and licorice flavors show a restrained sweetness. This has a rather firm acid/tannin spine and finishes a tad tough today. Difficult to assess today following the recent end of the malolactic fermentation.” 89-91? Stephen Tanzer, Mar/Apr 2006

Vosne-Romanee “Les Suchots”
“Very good deep red. Musky aromas of raspberry, black cherry, violet and chocolate. Densely packed and a bit high-toned; less obviously sweet than the Chambolle Charmes and less expressive today. Also less pure owing to the bit of remaining lees. Finishes with firm tannins and notes of licorice, bitter chocolate and minerals. A bit difficult to taste today.” 89-92 Stephen Tanzer, Mar/Apr 2006

"A bright cherry flavor and elegant frame highlight this stylish 2004 red. Everything, including the tannins, is in the right proportion. Shows intensity and length. Best from 2009 through 2015. 90 Wine Spectator, April 2007
