Enrico Santini: Tuscany, Italy
Poggio al Moro, Bolgheri
Only 1,700 cases have been produced of this blend of four separate varieties: 30% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Syrah. The grapes were vinified separately with a prolonged maceration of 3 to 4 weeks. Fermentation was temperature controlled and the wine remained in small French Barrels for approximately 3 months.
The wine has an intense ruby red color with slightly violet highlights. The bouquet is spicy with notes of cherries, strawberries, raspberries and black currants. Elegant and highly concentrated on the palate with velvety yet persistent tannins.

2005 Vintage Reviews
“Bright fruit, with berry and currant character. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese.” Wine Spectator
2004 Vintage Reviews
“Aromas of smoke and tar lead to expressive notes of ripe dark cherries and minerals in the fully-flavored 2004 Poggio al Moro, Santini’s entry-level bottling. Although it is fairly rich and concentrated on the palate, the high quality of the vintage is felt in this wine’s outstanding overall balance. Made from a blend of 40% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet, 20% Syrah and 10% Merlot.” 90 Wine Advocate, February 2007
