Château Providence: Bordeaux, France

Christian Moueix spent many years with an eye towards this property.  He fulfilled his long-held dream when he acquired Château Providence in 2005.  As Christian explains, the vineyards have always been managed impeccably, and he knew there was extraordinary potential for this estate that is ideally positioned  on the Pomerol plateau, next to Château Lafleur and Hosanna.  Since Château Providence was acquired, in fact, the vineyards have required few improvements, and not a single vine has been replanted.

The cellar, however, was in need of reconstruction, and  it, along with the Château, has been completely refurbished and updated.  Jean-Claude Berrouet, winemaker at Château Pétrus, Château La Fleur-Pétrus, Château Trotanoy and other properties of Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix, overseees Providence as well.

1,000 cases of beautifully elegant Merlot-based wine will be released for 2005, the first vintage of this latest jewel for the  Moueix family.

‘’Very subtle aromas of blackberry, licorice and lightly toasted oak.  Full-bodied and dense with round and soft tannins.  Long finish.’’ 92-94 Wine Spectator, March 2006
