Château Margaux 2005

Château Margaux 2005, 1st Growth of Margaux

A truly great, pure Château Margaux. A nose of finesse, grace and depth found only in a few dream vintages, and an exceptional concentration, superior to 2000 and even 2003. The color has unprecedented intensity, and the palate an extraordinary density and length with Château Margaux’s hallmark harmony. The Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) reached perfect ripeness without going over 13 degrees; 8% of the blend comes from the sole batch of Merlot that did not reach 14 degrees.

“This is another superb vintage from this grand dame estate. Administrator Paul Pontallier has overseen the production of so many great Margaux, it is senseless to say 2005 is better than all its predecessors, but it is an extraordinary effort.” 96-100 Wine Advocate, April 2006

“Unbelievable nose already. Incredible complexity of aromas, from wild raspberries to flowers and fresh mushrooms. Violets, currants. Love it. Full-bodied, with ultrarefined tannins. Long, long finish. It lasts for minutes on the palate. A wine with classic beauty. May well be 100 points.” 95-100 Wine Spectator, March 2006
