Alma Rosa: Santa Rita Hills, California
Chardonnay El Jabali, Santa Rita Hills
From organically-framed grapes at the fifteen-acre El Jabali vineyard, home of the Sanfords and just east of La Encantada, comes this vibrant Chardonnay. The fruit from this thirty year-old vineyard, as for all the Alma Rosa wines, is hand-picked. 50% of fermentation then takes place in stainless steel, and 50% in barrels. And, as with all non-Pinot Noir wines from Alma Rosa, the wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation. Elegant, graceful, sleek and crisp, with floral, citrus and tropical notes.
2005 Vintage Reviews:
"The outstanding 2005 Chardonnay El Jabali Vineyard offers plenty of tropical fruit, peach, and honeysuckle notes, an excellent texture, medium to full body, and an up-front style. Drink it over the next several years." 90 Wine Advocate, August 2007
“Here’s a good, rich white Burgundy-inspired Chardonnay, creamy in barrel-fermented vanilla custard and opulent lemon drop mousse, peach pie and smoky pie crust flavors. Balanced and dry, it’s enriched with crisp, savory acidity.” 90 Wine Enthusiast, April 2007
